Contact Lenses
|
Contact lenses are in general a correcting system
for myopia (farsightedness), hyperopia (nearsightedness), or astigmatism
that has shown great progress over the last years. Overall they
are a great corrective system and when they are fitted properly
they can guarantee you better vision than your eyeglasses.
Advantages:
-
Better Vision in compare with your
glasses because of the greater fien\l of vision you can have
with the contact lenses.
-
Better Vision in compare with your
glasses because the contact lens move as your eye moves and
therefore remains always at the center (with your glasses you
look through the center of the lens only when you are watching
staightahead).
-
Aesthetically distinct your natural
look without distorting the natural image of your eyes.
-
Good for Sports or other activities
that you find difficult to do with your glasses (soft contact
lenses are recommended). You also have wider peripheral vision,
no more stained glasses and you do not have to worry about braking
your pair of glasses.
Disadvantages:
-
They require your attention. The
contact lenses disantvantages are manifested only from the misuse
of them. It is necessary to clean them properly.
-
When the cleaning procedure is not carried out
correctly (and only then) you may have infections (more commonly
conjuctivitis).
-
You have to get used to them. In
most cases a period of a week is enough for the new user of
soft contact lenses. The rigid gas permeable lenses (RGP) might
take a little longer for you to get used to them.
Contact lenses fitting could be difficult if:
- Your eyes are too irrigated from alleregies
- You work in an environment with a lot of dust or chemicals
- you have hyperthyriodism, unstable diabetes or advanced arthritis
on your hands.
- Your eyes are too dry due to a pregnancy or certain drugs.
Your eyecare practitioner
after a detailed examination will be able to advice you what type
of contact lenses are the most suitable for your eyes.
In what age you can start using contact lenses.
Even a person in the age of 11-13 years old can manage to handle
contact lenses. The individual needs should be discussed with your
eyecare practitioner.
